Ballard is one of Seattle’s oldest neighborhoods with a Scandinavian origin which gives it a rich heritage. Charming old references to commercial fishing intertwine with hip new trendy restaurants, indie shops, bars, and craft breweries. One can learn more about the history at one of the local museums and enjoy watching the ships (and salmon!) pass through the local Hiram M. Chittenden and Ballard Locks.

Many young professionals choose to make Ballard home. The neighborhood is a mere 5 miles to the Central Business District, South Lake Union, and Capitol Hill. Not only is Ballard an excellent place to reside in, but it benefits from close proximity to major employers!

This neighborhood boasts an excellent farmers market on Sundays and plenty of great picnic spots. Alternate activities include Seattle’s most sandy beach, Golden Gardens. This picturesque beach resides on the Northern end of Ballard. Here one can enjoy beach bonfires, sunbathing, kayaking, and play some beach volleyball on the courts. For those looking to stay indoors, Ballard Avenue is home to many of Seattle’s most renown restaurants and bars.
